Hi

I was just wondering if someone could clarify the advantages or stuations s=to use either the soft or hard tip spoons. I have both and tried both. Now my little one of 5 months only wants food off my fingers. I ahve the Amadeus ones (both sets).
Is there a better one for fussy babies?

Hi,
My LO prefers food off the finger too - somehow must taste betterWink. She is now 8 months but preferred food off my finger or her holding something from about 6 months. However I soon realised that she then would refuse her pureed food. So now I offer the spoon first and once her meal is finished than I offer food on my finger or finger food to see if she will have some more. I have only used hard spoons, so not sure if that makes a difference, she still will have a chew of it if I offer it to her.

I know it seems wasteful and time consuming but keep offering her her meals and she will eventually get there in her own time. Just defrost small amounts. And if she doesnt want food at first, wait a couple of minutes and then try again. I read about you using the mobile and I have found that my LO eats much better when occupied, but I do this by offering a small toy or spoon etc, something that she can hold and touch.

the other thing you can try is making the food more runny. that might help as well.

I will try with a toy in her hand or her own spoon. She loves grabbing the spoon and putting it in her mouth herself, unfortunaltely not much gets in (LOL).
She will only take very runny puree... will be awhile before I can get her to eat a big meal:)

Hi Kaz:

I recommend using a hard tipped weaning spoon for the first 4 weeks. A hard tipped spoon is easier for your baby to ‘learn’ to eat off as initially they will actually ‘suck’ the food off the spoon so you need to hold it in their mouth so they can do that. That is why she probably likes to eat off your finger because you hold it in her mouth so she can suck the food off.

Once your baby is eating solids well (generally around 4 weeks later) you move to a soft tipped spoon as sometimes your baby will bite down on the spoon or you may get the spoon under their tongue so it does not hurt them.
