waking before 7am

My baby normally wakes up between 5:30 and 6am, and by the time 8 am comes around she's falling asleep on my shoulder so I have to put her to sleep. I've been bringing all the routine times for a 7month old forward an hour to cater for this earlier rising.

Is this the right thing to do? I've tried keeping her awake until 9 but she gets overtired and only sleeps for 45mins.

What should I be doing?

To help you with getting started on resolving your little ones early rising you can access a free copy of Tizzie's Safe bedding guide here - http://www.saveoursleep.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/save-our-sleep-article-safe-bedding-guide.pdf . Tizzie has found 70% of sleep problems are due to babies being not warm enough to sleep well, so this is always something we look at first when helping babies settle and sleep well. It is important that you stick to the routine sleeps times, as putting your baby down early will just reinforce the early rising as explained in the baby book on page 192, so it is very important that you work on keeping your baby awake until the routine sleep time of 9.20am for her age. If you are able to become a member of the Online Advice area we will be able to help you work through this in more detail though.
